Great Things

rotating star April 4, 2024 - The Complete 2024 Web Development Course on Udemy

I'm having a lot of fun getting started on web development. I really haven't touched html since the original geocities days. I wish I had run with that original interest, think where I'd be now! Here is my project for the day, I thought it was cute. It's made using html and css and I've taken a screen shot.

rotating star March 9, 2024 - Old fashioned shoes

When I was in the emergency room with my foot there was a lady in her 80s with gorgeous leather shoes. She was in a wheel chair and I was in a wheel chair, and we were facing each other with no ability to move. The only place to look was at her feet, it was awkward. BUT her shoes looked like they were from at least 50 years ago and they were in perfect shape. It made me want some well-made real leather shoes to wear to work. It's been a while since I've had a reaction to clothes/shoes. I want to listen to my inner style queen, I know she is in there. So I've been looking into Oxfords, Mary Janes, and Loafers. The price of them is high, but theoretically I could wear them for 50 years like the woman in the hospital.

These were the shoes she was wearing. They are Oxfords. I am worried that on me they will look like men's shoes. Brown leather Oxford shoes
These are a type of Mary Janes that are close to ones I had when I was little in the 80s. I remember how hard it was to do up the little buckles. Black leather Mary Jane shoes
And these are loafers. I've definitely seen these in every store so they would be easy to find. In my local stores, they are all made of plastic, but I found some leather ones I could order online. Bit of a risk with shoes, but it might be worth it. Brown leather loafer shoes

rotating star Feb 19, 2024 - Derry Girls

I've been doing a lot of sitting due to situations that do not belong in 'Great Things'. I am not allowing myself to watch true crime because it makes me anxious, and Netflix kept suggesting Derry Girls to me. My expectations going into it was that it was probably all about young people running wild and acting like adults. They do run a bit wild but in a lovely, normal, innocent way. IT was SO GOOD! I grew up in the 90s and though I think they were probably 2-3 years older than I would have been I loved the music and the clothes. Especially Erin's mom, my mom looked so much like her. Those sweatshirts! That hair! The backdrop being a situation that is quite hard to wrap your head around as an outsider, The Troubles, made it extra good because I like to learn. What a wonderful show.

The theatre before the show starts The cast of &Juliet dancing 2024

&Juliet was a show about if Juliet had lived instead of killing herself when she saw that Romeo was dead. It was all done with pop songs mostly from the 90s/early 2000s. I was prepared to dislike it because I am so tired of those songs. I was tired of them after they were overplayed on the radio the first time round, and I'm still tired of them now. They won't go away! I fell into it because they used the songs so cleverly, they really fit with the story line. It was also SO funny and SO smart. I also loved the gender plot line- it's so refreshing to see inclusivity out in the open rather than the discrimination that seems all over the news.

We just got back from New York and I will post a few great things from there over the next few days.
I'm not someone who cares much about restaurants and where I eat, but this place had waiters who were all broadway actors. Between serving tables they would take turns singing songs. My favourite was "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast, just because It was very appropriate for the setting.

rotating star Jan 5, 2024 - Jesus Christ Superstar

I'm Ready! The show was amazing.

The theatre before the show starts The cast of Jesus Christ Superstar 2023

I first watched Jesus Christ Superstar as a teenager when the local private school put it on. The kids that played Jesus' followers looked like they were having The Best Time Ever. I wanted to take part, and I regret that I never let my inner drama kid out. Maybe there is still time. I went home from the show, raving about it and it turned out that my Dad had the record of the music. He put it on tape for me to listen to. I don't know how many times I played that tape in my room, acting out the parts in my head.

Life goes on, and years later the movie was playing on TV and I said to my partner 'Oh my god, I really love this show.' I felt validated because he started listening to the soundtrack when he was working. He found out that there was a North American tour, and looked up the nearest show to us to surprise me with tickets. Unfortunatly, they were all too far away and it would have been too expensive to travel to go.

Well, I was listening to CBC radio and they started playing the soundtrack. I pricked my ears up. Then they had an interview from the man who played the Movie Jesus. Wow, what's happening, what's the buzz? Then came the announcement that it is coming to my local theatre. WHAAAAAAT! I booked tickets the first day, the first hour, they were on sale.

Going into the show, waiting for it to begin. I was so nervous that it wouldn't be as good as I remembered. It was a lot of money for tickets and I was bringing my family to see it for the first time. I didn't need to worry- I went home in a daze it transported me so well into another world.

It was so good for me to see it live again after so many years. I think the first time you see it as a non-Christian not familiar with the story, you don't know who anybody is. If it is an enjoyable experience, which it was for me, you will want to know more about the characters and over the years I've learned a lot. The insert in my dad's record had all the lyrics, which helped me to understand the story when I went home. I've read the bible, I watch online content that deals with Christianity, I'm really into western history and so much of it revolves around Christianity. As a non-religious person I love learning about it. So this time watching it with all I know about the musical itself and also the background info, it was even better than before. "You'll get the power and the glory, forever and ever and ever. AAAAAAAmmmmeeeeeeennnnn."
